Teachers In-Service

I am home with three small children today, not because anyone is sick (other than me) but because the teachers have an in-service day today. School started a month ago, and the children have a day off already? I don't know why but I don't remember nearly as many days off in my school year as a child, snow days when there is a powdering of snow on the ground, in-service days every month, and of course all the holidays that only bankers and government workers get to take off.

At least they are cooperating to some degree here, they've watched the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (for the first time) and Nanny McPhee as well and have been doing kids' level sudoku and word puzzles. They even showered this morning (amazing).

I somehow doubt that I will be able to find the time to have quiet time while they (and I) are awake at the same time (I've been sleeping through the movies, I'm tired of sleeping so much!) and when they are asleep I am pretty sure I'll be asleep also, so please forgive me. So much for my grand plans for having extra quiet time with God during the month of October! Please know I am still reading daily devotionals every day (usually about 4) and that I don't comment on them because they are based on another person's interpretations as well as their readings, not my own.

I will write more soon, perhaps I'll have a friend join me in reading/writing something, that would be fun!

As a favorite character in a favorite book series puts it...." Phillipians 4:13, for Pete's sake!"
I hope the kids do give you a moments peace... and tell you ahead of time so you're ready for it!

That passage of John is 5:1-7, where the number 38 comes into view. It was a very memorable reading I did on my 38th birthday. Please take care, and sleep well. Talk with you again soon.

Thanks Kevin,

I read it, and I do remember reading it now that I've re-read it. I'm curious though, what character and what book series is that from?

It's called the Mitford Series, by Jan Karon. It's about an Episcopalian priest and his life and struggles. And in partiicular, his joys and triumphs. The author makes him a little like Paul, a little like Solomon, and a lot like a middle aged washout rediscovering some youthful strength. There's a bunch of books in the series, seven I know of, and they're just plain fun to read. Lots of characters, with lots of growth.

I hope you're feeling better, and able to find a few quiet moments to commune with God.

ps, my kids have already had 3 days off, with another on Monday for Columbus Day. I can't even REMEMBER the last time I got a day off for Columbus Day!! TWYAS

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.

Quiet time is not readily available, but I do find myself praying while cuddling under a squirmy blanket comprised of 3 children.

Monday is Columbus Day? Great, I wonder if my kids have off... I'm going to have to look into that.

PS What does TWYAS mean?

Hi Rachel, it's Monday and that's all I have to say about that.... We're told to not worry about tomorrow, that today will have enough worries of its own. I think about that every Sunday Night when I'm thinking about how to put Monday into perspective.

The Christian radio station I listen to has reverted back into an oldies format. It was something of a surprise waking up to the Beatles instead of Micheal W Smith.... I hope you're feeling up to the day's demands, and pray you'll have time to read and write a little something here. It's back to the grind for me, the salt mines are calling! Bye 4 Now.
